Planting depth and within‐field soil variability impacts on corn stand establishment and yield

چکیده
Seedbed conditions during corn (Zea mays L.) planting can have substantial impact on stand establishment and final yield. Planting management decisions are complex due to spatial variability caused by changing soil characteristics such as texture or landscape position. Field experiments conducted in central Missouri from 2017 2019 assessed the effects of varying depths Sites included fine- coarse-textured alluvial soils, summit, back, foot slope positions Alfisol claypan landscapes. On soil, deep (7.6 cm) often had most uniform timely emergence. Shallow (3.8 least emergence was particularly troublesome fine-textured under warm conditions. Under these conditions, grain yield for one site-year 2.8 Mg ha–1 less when shallow compared with deep. position study, affected both cool growing period. During enhanced uniformity rate (1.1 d reach 90% than planting); opposite true (3.7 more). Yield not depth at any site-years study. These results indicate that certain textures require greater attention achieve optimum establishment. Differences could be used on-the-go planter prescriptions. findings also demonstrate despite early differences, stands compensate maintain similar

Impacts of Drought Stress and Planting Methods on Sweet Corn Yield and Water Use Efficiency
Abstract Seasonal drought is the most important factor to limit the production of maize in the world. Using a split plot design, a two year field experiment was conducted to determine the effect of limited irrigation regime on yield, yield components and water use efficiency of sweet corn (Zea mays var. saccharata). Responses of three sweet corn varieties KSC403, Merit and Obsession to three di...

Cropmodels capture the impacts of climate variability on corn yield
We investigate the ability of three different crop models of varying complexity for capturing El Niño–Southern Oscillation-based climate variability impacts on the U.S. Corn Belt (1981–2010). Results indicate that crop models, irrespective of their complexity, are able to capture the impacts of climate variability on yield. Multiple-model ensemble analysis provides best results. There was no si...
متن کاملIntegrative impacts of soil tillage on crop yield, N use efficiency and greenhouse gas emission in wheat-corn cropping system
Wheat-corn cropping system is one of the most important grain production systems in theworld. However, the integrative impacts of soil tillage on crop yield, N use efficiency (NUE)and greenhouse gases (GHGS) emissions are not well documented in this system. Thus, a twoyear field experiment was carried out in a typical wheat-corn cropping system with four tillageregimes during the wheat season, ...
